Bio:

AMPA, La Asociación Amazónicos por la Amazonía, is an NGO dedicated to helping Amazon communities to improve livelihoods and sustainably develope their villages in the Andes-Amazon Basin. We envision a territory where the people inhabitting it improve their lives through the natural wealth of their forests, where businesses and rural development originate from sustainable use of these forests, and where the product not only represents income but origin, and tastes of conservation. The Alto Mayo Association of Cocoa Producers is working with AMPA to strengthen the management and care of their forests through best agricultural practices, and by coming to the conclusion that increasing incomes by clearing forest for other agricultural uses is not a sustainable option for their communities’ futures. Instead, they have proven that a plot of cocoa, cultivated with best practices for harvesting and pest control, is a more profitable option that also guarantess the longevity of their biodiversity.
