| Bio: | The Xingu Indigenous Land Association – ATIX was founded in 1994 when the Xingu leaders who decided to create their own indigenous organization to legally represent and meet the needs of the interest of the Xingu Indigenous Park communities. Since then, ATIX has overseeen the border of the Xingu Indigenous Park, as well as its transport, health and education. We also seek to generate economic alternatives for communities through activities such as selling crafts and honey, always while enforcing and maintaining cultural appreciation of the Xinguanos people. Our mission is to strengthen the Xingu peoples, preserving their culture and traditional customs, seeking their economic development in a sustainable manner, and ensuring their role in the preservation of natural resources. In 2015 ATIX was authrorized by the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture to operate as an organic certifier, inaugurating the first exclusively indigenous Participatory Guarantee System in the world. Honors and Awards Public Management and Citizenship Award , awarded by the Getulio Vargas Foundation and the Ford Foundation, with the support of the National Social Development Bank. The ATIX was awarded for performance in Indigenous Education in the villages of the Xingu . |
